Air Mass Flow Rate
HVAC load calculations need the mass flow of air, found from the volumetric flow and the air density.
The mass flow is ṁ = ρ·V̇. where ρ is the air density and V̇ the volumetric flow rate.
Inputs
rho := 1.2 kg/m^3=1.2 kg/m^3
V_dot := 1.5 m^3/s=1.5 m^3/s
Multiply density by volumetric flow.
m_dot := rho·V_dot=1.8 kg/s
Results
This mass flow drives the sensible and latent load equations. Warmer or higher-altitude air is less dense, carrying less mass per cubic metre.
