Sensible Cooling Load
The sensible cooling load is the rate of heat removed to lower an air stream’s temperature, the core of air-conditioner sizing.
The load is Q = ṁ·c_p·ΔT. where ṁ is the air mass flow, c_p the specific heat and ΔT the temperature drop.
Inputs
m_dot := 1.8 kg/s=1.8 kg/s
c_p := 1005 J/(kg·K)=1005 m^2/K/s^2
dT := 10 K=10 K
Multiply mass flow, specific heat and temperature drop.
Q := m_dot·c_p·dT=18090 W
Results
This is the sensible part only; dehumidification adds a latent load on top. The total sizes the cooling coil and compressor.

- Sensible (dry) cooling only.
- Constant specific heat.
- Steady flow.
