Soil Porosity
Porosity — the void fraction of a soil — controls how much water it can hold and how easily fluids pass through it.
The porosity is n = V_v/V_t. where V_v is the volume of voids and V_t the total volume.
Inputs
V_v := 0.35 m^3=0.35 m^3
V_t := 1 m^3=1 m^3
Divide void volume by total volume.
n := V_v/V_t=0.35
Results
A porosity of 0.35 means 35% of the soil is voids. It links to void ratio and governs storage and permeability.
