Steam Mass from Heat Duty
Process heating with steam transfers mostly latent heat, so the steam demand follows from the duty divided by the latent heat.
The steam mass is m = Q/h_fg. where Q is the heat required and h_fg the latent heat of vaporisation.
Divide the heat duty by the latent heat.
Results
Each kilogram of condensing steam gives up its latent heat. Dividing the duty by it sizes the steam supply and the condensate return.
