Pump selection starts with hydraulic power — the useful power added to the fluid before motor and pump inefficiencies.
The hydraulic power is P = ρ·g·Q·H. where ρ is density, g gravity, Q the flow rate and H the total head.
Inputs
rho := 1000 kg/m^3=1000 kg/m^3
g := 9.81 m/s^2=9.81 m/s^2
Q := 0.03 m^3/s=0.03 m^3/s
H := 25 m=25 m
Multiply weight flow rate by head.
P := rho·g·Q·H=7357.5 W
Results
Divide this hydraulic power by the pump and motor efficiencies to get the electrical input. It is the basis of energy-cost and motor-sizing estimates.
Assumptions & limitations
- Incompressible fluid, steady flow.
- Total head includes static lift and losses.
- Efficiency applied separately.
