Gradient expresses how steeply a road or pipe rises — the rise divided by the horizontal run, often quoted as a percentage.
The gradient is G = rise/run. where rise is the vertical change and run the horizontal distance.
Inputs
rise := 8 m=8 m
run := 100 m=100 m
Divide rise by run.
G := rise/run=0.08
Results
A value of 0.08 is an 8% grade. Multiplying by 100 gives the percentage; the arctangent gives the angle in degrees.
