Thin Lens Image Distance
The thin-lens equation locates the image a lens forms from its focal length and the object distance.
From 1/f = 1/u + 1/v, the image distance v = 1/(1/f − 1/u). where f is the focal length and u the object distance.
Solve the thin-lens equation for image distance.
Results
A positive result means a real image on the far side of the lens. As the object approaches the focal length the image distance grows rapidly toward infinity.
