Summary tables

Insert → Summary is a compact table of labels plus live-linked result cells. Point each result cell at a worksheet name; the values update when you evaluate. Conditional formatting on the source math region is reflected in the cell.

Place a summary

  1. On the Insert tab, choose Summary, then click the page.
  2. The toolbar reads Summary table settings while Configure is open. The finished table is hidden until you close settings.

Columns

Under Columns, the hint is: Text columns hold labels or notes. Result columns link to worksheet variables (one per row).

  • Header — column title in the finished table.
  • TypeText or Result.
  • + Add column — appends a column (for example a second Result column for a second load case).
  • ✕ removes a column (disabled when only one remains).

Rows

Under Rows, the hint: enter text and pick variables below. The table view shows only the finished values.

  • + Add row — appends a row.
  • Text cells — type a label (placeholder: Text…).
  • Result cells — pick a variable from the dropdown. Empty is allowed; the finished cell stays blank until you pick a name.
  • ✕ on the row (tooltip: Remove row) — disabled when only one row remains.

How values update

A Result cell is a live link, not a copy of the number. Change the source math region — or its result format, decimals, or conditional formatting — and the summary updates on the next evaluate. Put the summary anywhere; it reads names from the whole sheet after Evaluate All, so it does not have to sit below the sources the way a formula does. Still, readers usually expect it at the top of the page or on the last page of a printout.

Export

The download icon on the toolbar is Export to Excel. Right-click the region for the same Export to Excel… command. The workbook contains the finished labels and values, not the Configure grid.
