Keyboard shortcuts
Shortcuts use Ctrl on Windows and Linux. On a Mac use Command, except where Alt/Option is named. The ribbon repeats the main ones in its tooltips: hover Evaluate and you get Ctrl+Enter plus the reminder that evaluation runs top-to-bottom, then left-to-right.
On the page
| Action | Keys |
|---|---|
| Evaluate All | Ctrl+Enter |
| Save As | Ctrl+S |
| Undo | Ctrl+Z |
| Redo | Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z |
| Cut / Copy / Paste regions | Ctrl+X Ctrl+C Ctrl+V |
| Delete the selected regions | Delete or Backspace |
| Add a region to the selection, or take it out again | Ctrl+click the region |
| New text region | Ctrl+Shift+T |
| Clear the selection, close the context menu, drop the insertion cursor | Esc |
| Nudge the insertion cursor one grid cell | Arrow keys |
| Push every region at or below the insertion cursor down one grid row | Enter |
| Start a math region at the insertion cursor | Any printable character |
| Greek letter | Alt+letter (Option on a Mac); add Shift for the capital |
The insertion cursor is the blue dot you get by clicking an empty spot on the page. The arrow, Enter and printable-character rows only work while it is showing.
Inside a math field
Autocomplete is covered in full on Autocomplete and the Alt+letter map on Greek letters and symbols. If the browser's own menu appears instead of Evaluate / Copy / Delete, right-click the region frame rather than deep inside the field.
| Action | Keys |
|---|---|
| Accept the highlighted autocomplete suggestion | Tab or Enter |
| Move through the suggestion list | Down and Up arrows |
| Dismiss autocomplete | Esc |
| Drop into a subscript, then climb back to the baseline | _, then _ again |
| Ask for an answer, then turn it into a comparison | =, then = again |
In the AI sidebar
Ctrl+Enter sends whichever prompt you are typing. In Create the field is hinted Ctrl+Enter to generate. In Review the question box reads Ctrl+Enter to submit and runs an Overview check.
