Canvas, zoom, and grid

The canvas is the page itself — the gridded sheet in the middle of the window. Regions sit at an (x, y) position with a width and height. You scroll the page vertically; a long sheet continues onto the next printed page.

Place and move regions

• Click empty paper to insert a math region (the default). Double-click empty paper to insert a text region.
• Use Insert when you want text, a plot, a picture, or another type, then click to place it.
• Click a region to select it. Drag the body to move it. Drag a corner or edge handle to resize.
• Click empty paper to deselect. Esc also cancels insert mode and clears the selection.

Positions snap to the grid so alignments stay tidy. How evaluation walks the page — rows top to bottom, then left to right — is in evaluation order. To place a specific type, see insert, move, and resize.

Grid

On the Document tab, the Canvas group has Grid. Click it to show or hide the printed grid. Hiding the grid does not turn off snap; it only changes what you see. The setting is stored on the worksheet.

Zoom

Zoom scales the view. It does not change the printed page size.

• Document tab, View group: drag the Zoom slider (50%–200%). The default is 85%.
• Status bar, bottom right: − and +, or click the percent to reset to 85%.

Zoom is remembered in this browser for your account. On a narrow window, opening the AI or Sections panel may drop zoom temporarily so the page still fits; it restores when you close the panel.

Pages, header, and footer

The sheet is a stack of pages. Scroll down to see page 2 and beyond. On Document you can show a Header or Footer band, set Top and Bottom heights, and insert fields (Page #, Pages, Date, Title) into those bands. Double-click the header or footer area to edit it.
