Selection and clipboard

Clipboard commands act on selected regions, unless you are editing inside a field — then Cut, Copy, and Paste use the native text clipboard.

Select

  • Click a region to select it.
  • Ctrl+click (Command-click on a Mac) adds or removes a region.
  • Drag on empty paper to rubber-band a box around several regions.
  • Click empty paper or press Esc to clear the selection.

Cut, copy, paste, delete

On the Home tab, Edit group, or from Quick Access where those buttons exist:

  • Cut / Ctrl+X — remove the selection and hold it for paste.
  • Copy / Ctrl+C — copy the selection.
  • Paste / Ctrl+V — place copies. An image on the clipboard becomes a picture region.
  • Delete or Backspace — delete selected regions when you are not typing in a field.

Right-click also offers Copy and Delete. Paste after a copy lands near the original; drag the copies into place.

With several regions selected, the context menu also offers Align left / center / right and resize-to-shortest or longest. That is covered on Context menu.
