Text regions
Put a note on the page. The title of the check, the assumption you had to make, the reference to a clause, the caption under a plot: all of that lives in a text region. A heading, a sentence and a bulleted list are the same kind of block. Insert one, click inside, and type.
Get a text region onto the page
Three routes, depending on where your hands already are:
- Double-click empty paper. A text region appears with its bottom-left corner at the click, ready for typing.
- On the Insert tab choose Text, then click the page where you want the note.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+T (Command-Shift-T on a Mac) to insert a text region at the pointer.
A single click on empty paper still gives you Math. Reach for the double-click, or Insert → Text, whenever you want words rather than a calculation.
Formatting as you type
The Text tab is the toolbox while the caret is in a region. Select characters to style a run. Click the region frame instead to apply a style to the whole block.

Rules that separate parts of a long sheet
Insert → Line drops a horizontal rule across the page. It is a text region that contains nothing but the separator: no heading, no section number, no bookmark. Separators belong on the main sheet, so the command is refused in a header or footer band.
Move, resize and wrap
Drag the frame to move a region and use the handles to resize it. Long paragraphs re-wrap inside the new width. Text regions take no part in evaluation. Nothing in them is computed, except that a marked section header sets the section number the calculations below it inherit.
